Abstract

This research is motivated by several problems, namely, the learning process has not been maximally implemented by the reward and punishment method, students are still low in paying attention to lessons in class, not creating a fun and conducive learning atmosphere, lack of enthusiasm for students in social studies learning. This study aims to determine how the application of the reward and punishment method in increasing students' social studies learning motivation and to find out whether the application of reward and punishment can increase the learning motivation of class V A students. This research uses the method of PTK (Classroom Action Research) method with 2 cycles. consists of four stages, namely, the planning stage, the implementation stage, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. Based on the conclusions in this study, the application of the reward and punishment method in social studies subjects has been running varied, with an increase in student motivation of 26.36% where at the beginning of the first cycle meeting the student response questionnaire obtained 54.15% and at the end of the cycle II increased to 80.15% with a very high category, then on the motivational observation sheet in cycle I and cycle II there was an increase of 43.16%. This indicates that there is a role for the reward and punishment method on the learning motivation of class VA students at SDN 2 Gedong Air.
